File sharing has gotten a bad rap. When you use the term, people automatically think that file sharing involves copyrighted music and movies that have been pirated. If you think file sharing is uniformly bad, think again. Mountains of user-generated content don't fit that bill. People generate content all the time. Every time they take a digital picture or make a video of their friends and family, they're generating content. Amateur photographers who are perfecting their techniques, or who simply want to share (freely) the photographs they take are generating content. People create playlists to have access to their music wherever they go. They want to keep tabs on the news feeds they're most interested in, and they want to share that information with their friends. That's all user-generated content. The ability to share content easily and quickly is what makes iGliss special. iGliss gives you the tools you need to collect the information you want in one place. Share what you want with whomever you want when you want without having to spend time uploading. iGliss fits into your lifestyle, especially if you're the kind of person who wants to access your content on your terms. As we build this service, we're also listening to you and your feedback. We want to give you access to your content, but also give you the ability to control the content you share and receive. After all, iGliss is all about you. If you like the service, please share the URL with your friends. Think of it as taking the first step toward building your very own content community. If you've gotten into digital photography and want to share your photos, iGliss is a great place to start. You can create customized photo albums that you can share with friends or with the world.
I do a lot of uploading and downloading of photos, and I can say that under normal circumstances, it can take a lot of time! If that's what's stopping you from photo sharing online, check out iGliss. A small client app runs on your PC and manages all of the uploading for you. Not only will it share photos, but it takes care of uploading all of the content you want to share.
The constant flow of information makes your life harder, so it's always nice to run across something that bucks that trend! You don't have to spend your precious time managing your content. With iGliss, you can spend your time enjoying it!

A great story on spam appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle today. Spam is pretty much universally hated, but the story is about how social media networks are being affected by spam and how they're learning to cope with it. The article points out that one of the techniques the networks need to learn is how to filter content according to the user's preferences. Wow! What a great idea! In my mind, this is yet another confirmation that customized content filters and content aggregation are the way to go, not only to deal with information overload, but also to deal with spam, which in itself, is a form of information overload. At this point, anything that improves the signal-to-noise ratio is welcomed! Hopefully, as you cruise the iGliss site, you'll find that it is pretty adept at filtering the content you want from the media sources you prefer. How do you deal with spam intrusions in their many ... and growing ... forms? Is customized content filtering part of the answer?

Universal McCann released a survey on social media usage [Warning: PDF Link] in March 2008. According to their findings, nearly three-fourths of Internet users are reading blogs, and almost half read, look at or otherwise use user-generated content at least one per week. Nearly 60 percent of respondents watch at least one video clip each week. Social media is growing fast and furious, and may be approaching the point of media overload. Whether you're talking about video, audio, blogs and microblogs, podcasts, RSS feeds, or social networks, the growth in the use and acceptance of social media is nothing short of phenomenal. Across the board, social media use is increasing. In the year since Universal McCann did the survey the first time, the number of users watching video clips increased by 21 percent. The number of blog readers increased by 12 percent, and the number of users who subscribe to RSS feeds nearly tripled. Almost half of all Internet users listen to podcasts. WIth this kind of uptake, it's easy to see how someone might be overwhelmed by the media explosion. It's great to have access to so much content, and from so many sources, but media overload is definitely an issue. If you're new to the site and you're a heavy social media user, I'm interested in knowing how you manage your media now, are you suffering from media overload, and whether a tool like iGliss plays into your content management? iGliss is now made public to the Internet. In the last 3 months, we have collected a lot of valuable feedbacks from our trial users, which have helped us improve the quality and usability of the service. Thank you for your support. Our service is still at the "beta" stage, and our work still continues. We are going to keep on improving the usability of the service, to make it easier for you to collect media content shared by your friends from other Web sites, and to publish your content to other Web sites. We feel that there is still so much work we can do to make our service truly great. But on the other hand, we also believe that the improvement is going to be endless. We want to open the service to the Internet users at large, so that we can collect more feedbacks, and use them to guide the improvement that we are continuously making. So, please tell your friends about our service, and as always, send us comments to help us make the service better. We will be rolling out some new exciting features and improvements in the near future. Team iGliss

Uploading a few pictures to a Web site is one thing, uploading 500+ pictures is quite another. For people who have tried, the experience typically involves spending many hours selecting and uploading pictures, a process few of us want to repeat. Want to upload videos or audio podcasts? It certainly won't be any easier. Try to upload a 15 minute video clip of 240M bytes from your PC, and you will know how it feels. Even with the upload tools from some Web sites, uploading media files still requires spending hours selecting and uploading files manually. All of us would like to share many of our pictures, videos, and audio podcasts from our PCs, only if doing so is less time-consuming. The iGliss PC Client takes the hassle away from remotely accessing and sharing your pictures, videos, and music on your PCs. It monitors the media directories, automatically syncs the media files up to your iGliss media catalog without a single mouse click by you. It lets you instantly share your personal media content with your friends. It also keeps your iGliss media catalog in sync with your media library on your PC. For example, if you delete a picture from your PC, the iGliss PC Client also automatically remove it from your iGliss catalog. iGliss truly makes uploading media files a thing of the past.
Only 3.5M bytes in size, the iGliss PC Client has a simple and intuitive interface. However, don't be fooled by its simplicity and small footprint. It has packed a lot of amazing capabilities that makes sharing media content fun and easy. My wife recently took some 300+ pictures and videos of our two kids using our new 10 MP digital camera. After she transferred the pictures and videos to a folder on our home PC over a USB cable, she simply added the folder to the iGliss PC Client. Presto! The pictures were almost instantly added to a new picture album in her iGliss media catalog. More interestingly, iGliss also automatically separated the videos from the pictures, and created a new video channel for the videos. All my wife needed to do afterwards was to share the album and channel with her group of friends on iGliss. Instantly her friends was able to enjoy the pictures and videos she shared with them. It was that simple. A week later, my wife added more pictures and videos from her camera to the same PC folder. This time she didn't even need to do anything. iGliss automatically synchronized the pictures and videos to her iGliss album and video channel, and her friends were automatically notified of the new media content that she shared with them. To me, the best part is that iGliss can sync my favorite music tracks to my iGliss media catalog, so that I can listen to my favorite music from my laptop over the Internet while I am at work or on the road. Please give the iGliss PC client a try. I hope you will find it easier than ever to share your media content from your PCs, without you ever uploading a single file.

Happy New Year! January 2008 marks the beginning of the iGliss limited trial. The iGliss team is very excited to welcome those who have been invited to join us in the limited trial of the new iGliss service. We are working hard to increase the system capacity so that we can let more people participate in the trial. If you are interested in the limited trial, please leave your email address here, so that we can send you an invitation as soon as we have space available. It is an exciting new chapter for iGliss. For the last year we have been working very hard to create this Web site and improve the quality of the features. We would like you to share our excitement in using the site to collect, mix, sync, and share media content from your PCs and some of the most popular Web sites. During the limited-trial period, you are allowed to invite up to 2 friends to join you in using the Web site, because we want to limit the usage due to our system capacity. When the trial period is over, you will be able to invite as many friends as you would like to share media content with you. Please feel free to provide us any valuable feedback so that we can continue to improve our Web site. Again, it is exciting to have you try out our service. We hope you will find it useful. The iGliss Team
